Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #233

FGF LogoV2Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! I was slammed at my day job last Friday so unfortunately blog hop did not happen. BUT we are back this week and we are in AUGUST!

Wow I cannot believe it. I love this time of year. This is when, for me, the hard work from spring planting comes to fruition and we have more food than we can eat. Preserving and sharing it begins!

Pickles were on the agenda this morning. Early this morning I picked over 11 pounds of cucumbers!

The smaller ones got scrubbed and 8 pounds found themselves waiting to be pickled.

IMG_20160805_090510989We now have seven quarts of yummy, garlicky, “pickly” goodness.

This is an easy and delicious recipe that I have used for the last three years. It is from DIY Natural and it is amazing.

I hope you are having an amazing summer. I know for many of you this is the time of year that your children are either headed back to school or you may be gearing up for a new homeschooling year. Cheers to a great school year!

So, let’s hop! I am sure you have been doing much over the last couple of weeks, so start your bragging on yourself!

Welcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

This week has been a fun week of planting and working on our kitchen. Never a dull moment but that is how I like it!

Gardening makes me dream of tomatoes and squash and the Sunny Italian Stew Recipe from Claudia at Avalon Media last week hit the spot! She said it was inspired by her time in Italy as a child and it looks wonderful! Be sure to check it out!

Tips for Gardening with a One Year Old was also delightful! Since we just came back from playing in the dirt with our daughter’s family (which includes an almost 2 year old) it seemed to be perfect timing for this read. Thank you Frugal Mama for sharing!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #211

FGF Logo

Deb has graciously allowed me to continue on as the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop hostess! We have had so much fun sharing in the previous 210 blog hops, let’s keep it going shall we? Do you like the new logo? I think she is darn cute!

A little update on my end— last week when Deb was posting that I would be hosting this moving forward, hubby and I were in a medical facility waiting for a CT Scan. 🙁

He had doubled over in pain that morning at the gym and the scan revealed he had a KIDNEY STONE! YIKES! For those of you that have experienced this my sympathy is with you. I have never seen such pain in a man; and to see it in a man that never even takes a Tylenol was a little disconcerting for me to say the least.

Good news is that he passed it on Monday night. The little sucker looked like a dry black bean. My hubby loves Mexican food so we have had some laughs over the fact that only he would have a kidney stone that looked like this. We are very grateful that this was short lived and over!

So I have been dreaming of gardening. We have our cold frames that have kept us in greens all winter so far. BUT spring is around the corner and lots to be done. We got some shelving for our little green babies and oh the catalogs… who can resist??? I love saving seeds but the downside is that I don’t need to order seeds! What’s a farmgirl to do? Order more seeds of course!

seed catalogs

What’s your favorite thing to grow? I am asked this and I say tomatoes! And then I say green beans! And then I say peppers! And then I say squash! And then I say lettuce, beets, carrots, radishes, peas, pumpkins, kale…. well you get the idea. How can you say what is your favorite? That is like saying who your favorite child is or chicken or goat is… really???? Who can do that?

I am looking for a CO-HOST! Who would love to do this with me? Please leave a comment or PM me on FB. I am wanting desperately to partner with 1 or 2 or 3 other farmgirls to host this. It is fun and easy. Please consider and let me know if you might like to do this. I want to highlight favorites again on a weekly basis. It would be fun to have a couple of us doing that. And giveaways are a part of 2016! I love a giveaway don’t you?

So let’s get hopping!

To refresh, this is easy! Here are some simple guidelines!

  1. Write a post about your farmgirl lifestyle and brag a little about your farmgirl talents while your at it! Share what being a farmgirl means to you. Include lots of photos of your farm, crafts, animals,  quilts, home decor projects and thrifty make overs, your backyard garden, chicken coop, recipes, studio or workshop. You get the idea!
  2. Leave your entry in the  Linky tools space to your  Farmgirl Friday post.
  3. Please include the Farmgirl Friday button ( or link back here ) in your post and remember to share this hop with all of your blogging friends!
  4. Enter up to three entries per hop!

Don’t be shy! This newbie farmgirl learns soooo much from all of you! Please round up your best of the week and share it here!

Thank you for your support!

Last week’s entry from You Can Be A Great Gardener-Battle with Weeds was near and dear to my heart as I blogged on a similar challenge!

And who can’t get lost in the beautiful photography from Woods Country Love. So pretty! Thanks for sharing.

We are about to build an ark here. Rain, rain and more rain. The seedlings have loved it but I still have my tomatoes to plant! They are happy in their pots in the pole barn, but one of these days these green babies are going to have to get out to their permanent summer home.

What are you up to this week? We are headed to celebrate grandson Arlo’s 1st birthday!

Well join the hop and brag a bit!

200th Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop Anniversary AND Giveaway!

apron

WOW! 200th Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! Some of you have been here since hop #1 and some (like me) joined in sometime between then and now. Whenever you started hopping with us, we are just glad you did!

Every week we have such an array of great blogs, tips, fun and creativity. Deb and I love reading them and feeling connected to you all.

Hop over to Deb’s to see where her inspiration came from for our blog hop (I am sure many of you can guess it is MaryJane Butters). She inspired Deb to start our blog hop.

A little known fact is that when we decided to move to the country the very first magazine I bought was a MaryJanesFarm Magazine. I had never heard of this magazine in the “city” but I ate it up–every page and have been a loyal reader and part of the Farmgirl Sisterhood ever since.

So it only makes sense that on this, our 200th Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop that Deb and I are giving away TWO 1 year subscriptions to MaryJanesFarm Magazine!

Do I hear a YIPEE??

We know ya’ll are busy, busy, busy!  It is summer time right??? So, simply leave a comment on my blog and Deb’s and finish the statement

“You might be a farmgirl if…..”

I can’t wait to see how ya’ll finish that one. For me it would be “You might be a farmgirl if you have more dirt under your nails than polish on top.”

What about you? Visit Deb and I and leave your antic! Good Luck!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #190

apron

Welcome to Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop. Can you believe it is #190? When I typed that number I was blown away.

I was so inspired last week by the great blog that was shared by Unfettered Fox on Nasturtiums! Besides the gorgeous pictures that made me dream of warm days and color, she had GREAT information on all the wonderfulness of Nasturtiums. From their beauty, to their role as a trap plant and their edibleness. It made me want to plant these little critters everywhere! Aren’t they beautiful?

I have started seedlings this week. That is the first step for me in gardening so I feel like I am back to gardening! Deb is still thawing out as it much of the east coast. What are you up to? Your posts are always inspiring to me. I learn so much every week.

So let’s do it shall we?

Be sure to stop by Dandelion House and Deb’s to send warm thoughts her way to melt the remaining snow!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #183

apronWelcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop — Monday edition. Deb and I were both out this weekend so we are a little behind on posting! But all for a good cause.  🙂

Deb was at The Northeastern Poultry Conference. She had a blast. Be sure to stop by and read all about it! It sounds like a dream weekend for a farmgirl! And she has a giveway going, so that is always fun!

I was taking in beautiful views and sunrises while hubby was at the Woodworking Show this weekend.

This is hubby’s first woodworking show.  He is in IT so normally it is technology conferences for him. Last year he really started getting into woodworking in his workshop and he has put out a few lovely pieces of furniture.  Look at this table he make for my daughter and husband from barnwood that he reclaimed.

I am so excited that he took the time and to go to the show. He LOVED it and I don’t think he was sorry that it was not a tech show!

What’s going on in your neck of the woods? We are happy you are here. Join in and tell us what you are up to. Be sure to stop by and say hi!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #179

apronHello and welcome to December! It is cold, but not snowy here currently. Fall decorations are down and chopping a Christmas Tree down this weekend is on the agenda. We are reading about what the small, local towns around us do for the holidays and deciding how we can fit in all the light displays, concerts, plays and other fun things. We are heading to my mom and dad’s tomorrow to get their Christmas decorations down from their attic. I have been looking at Etsy, Pinterest and other DIY sites for really cool, make it yourself Christmas gifts. PJ’s are waiting to be sewn. Hubby and I spent a fun filled evening last night with cheese and crackers and wine doing a bit of online shopping for goodies.

Coming off of a great trip seeing all the kids and spending Thanksgiving with our first grandson was supreme! We cooked and ate and played and enjoyed. It has also just made me reflect on how blessed we are. We have a lovely life with great health. Others around us are not so fortunate and each day I thank God for our health and the ability to do and enjoy what we have.

So it is busy, but filled with holiday fun. What are you enjoying and doing? What are you busy with? Do you go over the top with decorating and baking for the holidays or keep it simple? Glad you took time to join us today; share what you are up to!

Be sure to stop by Deb’s she is highlighting a beautiful box and sharing a little power tool envy! I love power tools! How about you?

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #178

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! I know it was yesterday, but we are still celebrating and visiting. We will have a 2nd round of dinner tonight and I can’t wait. I love the leftovers and spending time with family. An added bonus is that much of our food came from our garden this year. For me that made everything taste better! Celebrating with the kids and our first grandson was (and is) glorious!

Deb has been busy this week moving her mom in and decluttering on top of celebrating Thanksgiving! Oh that word… I love the feeling after decluttering but can procrastinate that one pretty successfully. We try to declutter an area, drawer, cabinet or something for 30 minutes a couple times a week. We have much still to go through since our move and although this does not get it done quickly it does move it forward. How about you? How do you do all the stuff you normally do and still find time to declutter those areas that just seem to hold onto things?

I am thoroughly enjoying fall. I am playing around with low tunnels and cold frames outside. Hopefully we will reap a harvest from those efforts.

IMG_20141123_101052160

What about you? How was your Thanksgiving? Are you making gifts for the holiday? Do you bake lots of cookies and yummies? So glad you are spending part of your day with us. Please share what you are up to!apron

Be sure to stop by Deb’s and see who won the giveaway and say hello! Thanks for joining us!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #172 and a WINNER!

apron

Happy Fall! My calendar tells me it is fall, but this week finds me still in the middle of my summer harvest.  I am NOT complaining about that. I am thrilled to still be gathering veggies and to have the challenge to use it and preserve it all! Fall gardens will go in over the next week, but I will certainly be overlapping the gardens I am working on for the next couple weeks.

AND WE HAVE A WINNER from last week’s contest.  Remember the great wall art from Sarah Hudock of Lighthearted Art? Well our lucky winner is June McConkey of the adorable blog The Heart of Junebug! Thank you to everyone who entered! We had 30 entries total.

Be sure to visit Sarah and thank her for the giveaway. While you are there take a look at the colorful, whimsical artwork that is available.

Time to link up your weekly fix of farmgirl soul! We have all been so busy with seasons overlapping. I can’t wait to see what you have been up to.

Be sure to visit Deb over at Dandelion HouseShe is always up to something colorful!
