Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

December was a wonderful roller coaster ride of so many fun things.

It started the 1st of December with a “mimi only” visit to my cutie pie of a grandson. I was so happy to be there early in December and see him decorate the tree and play gingerbread house with him on our date nite.

On that trip I also got to catch up with a dear friend that I don’t see often enough and have a dinner date with my oldest daughter. It was such a great trip for visiting and laughing.

THEN off to Universal with my daughter and her hubby. Yep no kids – an adult only trip to Universal, Islands of Adventure, Disney and Epcot. It was so much fun. I thought it might be a one shot deal, but now I am thinking visiting Orlando before Christmas every year might be a really good thing to do!

Then Christmas! We spend it in Atlanta with all the kiddos and their families. We have not all gotten together on Christmas for 5 years! I was in heaven. Here is our beautiful group photo on our ugly Christmas sweater Christmas Eve.

dsc_0312

We went to concerts over the holiday and saw lite and tree displays in a variety of places. We had friends over for desserts and drinks. We truly took some breaks to enjoy the holiday season.

We were then back home for New Year’s Eve. My mom and dad visited for a few days, we had a New Year’s Eve party with family and friends which was so much fun! We ate yummy food and laughed a lot. We watched a lot of football and slept. It was all good!

Christmas decorations are down as of yesterday and we are 9 days into 2017! I for one embrace the new year with all of it’s uncertainties and challenges, but mostly because of my family and friends that I have in my life – that love and support is constant and the holidays remind me of that.

So Happy New Year to you. I hope that it brings you much love and laughter, peace and joy and something in the way of a new challenge that will brighten your life.

Happy New Year!

Hello Again!

Happy Fall!

I have been on a bit of a hiatus. For me it is a good thing to do now and then. It is nice to focus on what I am doing and not be so concerned with camera angles while taking pictures and making sure that I am not missing a picture or redoing something just to capture the picture. I am pretty certain that if you blog you can relate to that! So every once in a while I put the camera aside, take pictures just for me and detach just a bit from the electronics.

We have had a full and fun late summer however. Much of me still feels I am in summer. The temperatures are cooler and the fall garden is planted but the summer garden is still producing heavily. So canning and eating summer food is still in the forefront. Canning is on the calendar again this week. Last Tuesday I canned 55 pounds of tomatoes. It makes me so excited to think I will be able to enjoy them all winter long!

img_20160922_101155451

img_20160922_101137357_hdr

The produce is still coming in!

img_20160805_080829307_hdr

I have lots of winter squash coming in now, but no pictures. Like I said, my electronics and I have been working on practicing a little separation.

Kitchen! Yes, kitchen is progressing nicely. Cabinets on the walls now and gorgeous counter tops. I am super excited about the counter space I have now and the big sink!

And of course life would not bring quite as many smiles without a visit to this little guy!

I hope you are enjoying the transition of the seasons! What are some of your favs this time of year?

Raising Up a New Garden(er)

IMG_20160515_164641183We visited our daughter and family recently with the purpose of setting up a garden for them. They LOVE vegetables (even Arlo who is about to be 2) so having a raised bed makes so much sense for them. And what is more fun than sharing your passion with people you are passionate about?

Mike was in charge of the logistics of building the box — which simply means he got to play with his power tools. 🙂

IMG_20160514_145243345

IMG_20160514_151221260

And of course being outside in Georgia means it was HOT. Arlo had to break from all the work for a quick dip in his pool while mom sat nearby looking at seed packets.

IMG_20160514_180541647

IMG_20160514_151656113

Then off to Home Depot we went to load up on planting medium, worm castings and just miscellaneous fun gardening stuff.

IMG_20160515_153127591

Unloading and dumping was next. Adam and hubby handled the honors.

IMG_20160515_163141275

IMG_20160515_163150406

IMG_20160515_163827187

A little raking and smoothing action was needed and Arlo was up to the task with his cute blue gardening gloves on.

IMG_20160515_164636109

IMG_20160515_164656158

We measured off squares with bright string and the planting began. We did a combination of seeds for things like beans, squash, radishes, carrots and cucs. I brought tomato, basil, pepper and eggplant green babies from home.

IMG_20160516_143159668_HDR

IMG_20160516_142241287_HDR

And what’s a day in the sunshine without a ride in the garden cart?

IMG_20160515_172601272

A toddler will be a toddler even with 4 adults around. Arlo enjoyed discovering how to work the hose and was extremely happy when he got squirted and wet— “again”, “again”, “again”, was the song that he sang.

IMG_20160515_170852225

IMG_20160515_170842875

We all put together a fence with PVC and chicken wire. This will work great to keep bunnies out and maybe quick little hands.

IMG_20160515_170810700

We did some sprucing up in the back also. It is always nicer to sit or play outside if you have some pretty things to look at also. Laura did a great job of cleaning out a spot under this little tree. We planted some flowers here. IMG_20160516_151325793

We also snuck in some pumpkin seeds. There is a slight drop here and we hope the pumpkins will vine a few inches down; they will have a wide open area for sprawling out then.

IMG_20160516_163613926

Adam attacked and conquered (for now) the bamboo that was HUGE and spreading in the back.

IMG_20160516_163628131A barrel of herbs and a hanging planter finished us up.

IMG_20160516_153011811_HDR

IMG_20160516_154208244_HDR

To end our day in the sun we had to take a couple of family photos right?

IMG_20160516_163925338

IMG_20160516_163556507

We are all hoping the gardening goes well and they will be eating from their yard in a couple of months!

Happy Unleashing outside today!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop # 168

Welcome to Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!  I am a wee bit late this week!  Travels for me and computer glitches for Deb delayed us but our farmgirl spirit never wavered, just curves in life kept us from blogging.  Deb’s flowers are so gorgeous; be sure to hop over to see her bloomin’ colors!

I have been in heaven this week as we are visiting the grandbabies.  Mimi and Papa are having an awesome time with Arlo-he is smiling, cooing and loves playing peek a boo- we played for an hour on Friday night while we babysat! Heaven is definitely spending time with your grandbaby!

Papa and Arlo

Seeing Laura and Adam settling into being a mommy and daddy is shear joy. Another bonus of our trip was celebrating Laura’s birthday last night with a great meal and of course Arlo. AND today we are heading further south to visit our youngest!  We are actually in the car as I am writing this blog–the ease of technology when it is working right!

BUT Arlo is not the only grandbaby getting attention.  We have several puppies that are “grand doggies” and we are doggy sitting for daughter Rachael and hubby while they are on an awesome vacation in Oregon. This is Lilly, representing all three pups that we are enjoying as well.

In my blogging absence, I have still been reading your updates on FB and blogs.  We hope you join in the blog hop this weekend and during the upcoming week and share what you are up to.  I will be traveling back home next week and will get back into “normal” (whatever that means!).

So, join in and visit Deb too and say hi! Have a wonderful weekend and week!

Mimi Moments

mom and arloLife changing moments occur for all of us. A biggie happened to me on June 17th when I witnessed my middle daughter become a mommy for the first time!  And I, instantly transformed into grandma, affectionately known as “Mimi”  to my family. It is amazing, as many of you know, to enter this experience on the journey of  life. As each day passes and Arlo is in our lives, I find myself finding multitudes of joyous moments that I have been referring to as “Mimi Moments”  I would love to share some of these with you. The first moment having Arlo in my arms was pure heaven. The happiness is and was indescribable. mimi and arlo Another came in calming baby Arlo and showing his mommy and daddy some “tricks”.  After several minutes of “blowing off some steam” (ie crying), Mimi had a try at comforting the little one. I pulled out an old carrying position that was always a sure thing with my girls, and instant quiet. Magic! (not really, just some years under me) My daughter is nursing Arlo. I nursed all three of mine and it thrills me when Laura asks me for guidance or just feels like she can talk to me about this. I love that we are experiencing the same emotions with our firstborn 25+ years apart. On Day 2 the nurse arrived to examine Arlo. He was not happy about being undressed and poked at. I stood over the bassinet held his little hand, rubbed his leg and foot and he calmed. I felt so happy knowing that I could make that traumatic experience a little better for him. Afterwards as he stared at me I felt like his little eyes were saying “wow that was a team effort!” I have loved Laura recalling childhood and teenage moments with me as her mommy.  Some I remember and some I do not.  It is amazing what sticks with your children. I am so happy that Laura takes with her the fact that I loved being a mom. I also take such joy in seeing Arlo’s daddy loving his new role. The way he waits on my daughter and grandson is thrilling and assures me there is nothing to worry about as far as their care goes.  Laura has a partner in parenting; what a gift! I was honored to drive the new family home as Arlo “sang” the entire way. carseat Laura and Adam have been so grateful to have “Mimi” around which of course makes me happy.  I am glad I am helping and easing their worries the best I can.  Adam thanked me sincerely before leaving the hospital and said he felt like he was learning from the “master.” That strokes the ego, but more than that really fulfills something deep inside.  My most treasured role is that of mommy. The nights awake with all three of mine in the quietness of their nursing and breathing are some of my most sacred moments of my life. I am beyond happy to share those experiences of joy (and fear) with them. Yesterday, when I visited them at home, Arlo was happily lying on Mommy.  At my arrival she passed him onto “Mimi”.  Arlo in turn got a bit fussy about leaving mom.  The greatest Mimi moment yet, was passing that little guy back to mommy knowing that his greatest comfort is in her arms. Me becoming a “Mimi” or my daughter  becoming a “Mommy”?  It is a toss up as to which is the greatest Mimi moment. Happy Unleashing! FGU

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #161

It is so good to be here with ya’ll today!  I missed hostessing last week, but I was online and reading.  After an appointment with the PT for my neck, I just couldn’t bring myself to keyboard.  This week I am anxious to host and read!

So many exciting things happening here. We got bees!  I hope you saw my blog post on all our new babies! They are so wonderful.  I get to peak at them later today and I can’t wait!

Bees New Home

AND we are heading to Atlanta to welcome our new grandson on Tuesday!  He is my first and I am over the moon about it! I have sewn crib bumpers and a skirt for the crib and I am really excited about seeing it all together.  Hubby made a beautiful changing table and I painted it with Farmhouse Paint.  It is simply gorgeous.  (pictures to come on this one!)

AND we are siding the house.  That is messy and wonderful all at the same time.

My confession however is that my garden is behind; all my green babies are not in the ground yet.  Many, many reasons why, but today I will be putting some of my green babies in bigger pots because it is raining (again) and they are simply growing out of their little pots.  The good news is that at least I get to play with some dirt today AND I am in good company because Urban Overalls is having the same challenges!

What about you?  Is your garden in? Are you running behind on something like me?  There is no shame in that!  After all we are a bunch of busy farmgirls!  I can’t wait to see what you are up to this week.

So I am READY to blog hop. Let’s get it going! Be sure to stop by all our hosts!

Hello and welcome to the hop! I love, love, love this time of year.  My strawberries are starting to pop some little morsels on them, my rose bushes are leafing out fully and my green babies are growing!  They will get transplanted this weekend to bigger pots.  It is not quite time yet for putting them out in the garden but we are on countdown!

I have a little raised bed that I grow herbs in.  My pregnant daughter gifted me with a beautiful deco item for it.  She will have my 1st grandchild in June and she wants me to be called “Mimi” so she had this made.  Isn’t it beautiful?
