Hello Again!

Happy Fall!

I have been on a bit of a hiatus. For me it is a good thing to do now and then. It is nice to focus on what I am doing and not be so concerned with camera angles while taking pictures and making sure that I am not missing a picture or redoing something just to capture the picture. I am pretty certain that if you blog you can relate to that! So every once in a while I put the camera aside, take pictures just for me and detach just a bit from the electronics.

We have had a full and fun late summer however. Much of me still feels I am in summer. The temperatures are cooler and the fall garden is planted but the summer garden is still producing heavily. So canning and eating summer food is still in the forefront. Canning is on the calendar again this week. Last Tuesday I canned 55 pounds of tomatoes. It makes me so excited to think I will be able to enjoy them all winter long!

The produce is still coming in!

I have lots of winter squash coming in now, but no pictures. Like I said, my electronics and I have been working on practicing a little separation.

Kitchen! Yes, kitchen is progressing nicely. Cabinets on the walls now and gorgeous counter tops. I am super excited about the counter space I have now and the big sink!

And of course life would not bring quite as many smiles without a visit to this little guy!

I hope you are enjoying the transition of the seasons! What are some of your favs this time of year?

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #233

FGF LogoV2Welcome back to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! I was slammed at my day job last Friday so unfortunately blog hop did not happen. BUT we are back this week and we are in AUGUST!

Wow I cannot believe it. I love this time of year. This is when, for me, the hard work from spring planting comes to fruition and we have more food than we can eat. Preserving and sharing it begins!

Pickles were on the agenda this morning. Early this morning I picked over 11 pounds of cucumbers!

IMG_20160805_081811788

The smaller ones got scrubbed and 8 pounds found themselves waiting to be pickled.

IMG_20160805_090510989We now have seven quarts of yummy, garlicky, “pickly” goodness.

IMG_20160805_102159115

This is an easy and delicious recipe that I have used for the last three years. It is from DIY Natural and it is amazing.

I hope you are having an amazing summer. I know for many of you this is the time of year that your children are either headed back to school or you may be gearing up for a new homeschooling year. Cheers to a great school year!

So, let’s hop! I am sure you have been doing much over the last couple of weeks, so start your bragging on yourself!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #232

FGF LogoV2Welcome to Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

Last week we were on a farm tour with Purdue extension services so there was no Farmgirl Friday blog hop that occurred. The tour was really good as it helped to clarify some things for us. That is ALWAYS valuable. We turned in our paperwork this week for our tunnel from the EQIP program from the USDA. Exciting times!

Whoa is it hot! How about where you are? We worked outside for 3 hours this morning before work because the heat index is expected to peak 105 degrees today and tomorrow. That is too hot even for me to work outside! I think this weekend will be filled with the kitchen remodel since that happens to occur in the air conditioning!

We got our first little summer harvest this week. It is such an exciting time of the year when that occurs.

How are you staying cool? What are you harvesting? What are you up to? Let’s get to the hop!

Here’s some simple guidelines:

  1. Write a post about your farmgirl lifestyle and brag a little about your farmgirl talents while your at it! Share what being a farmgirl means to you. Include lots of photos of your farm, crafts, animals,  quilts, home decor projects and thrifty make overs, your backyard garden, chicken coop, recipes, studio or workshop. You get the idea!
  2. Leave your entry in the  Linky tools space to your  Farmgirl Friday post.
  3. Please include the Farmgirl Friday button ( or link back here ) in your post and remember to share this hop with all of your blogging friends!
  4. Enter up to three entries per hop

Thank you for joining and sharing and visiting each other! It is not a hop without you.

Happy Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #230

AND

Happy 4th of July Weekend!

flag

Plans for picnics, BBQs and fireworks dance in my head. My cousin’s family has moved nearby (1 hour away) YIPEE! AND we will be spending some quality family time with them this weekend.

And yes gardening and lots of it this weekend. With a long weekend away from the day job that leaves much time for playing outside and getting a great farmgirl manicure.

Did you see the beautiful crafts made from blue bottles last week on the blog hop?

This was just one of the beautiful pictures and fun things that Lyn shared. I must admit however that these chimes were my favorite. Thanks to Lyn from sharing from Repurposed For Life.

Enjoy your 4th of July. But be sure to stop by and link up your blog to show off your farmgirl skills!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #229

FGF LogoV2Here we are again at the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop! So glad you stopped by.

I love this time of year – mostly because I am obsessed with my veggie gardens. The potatoes blossomed this week—

The beans are about ready to pop on our first planting of them—

IMG_20160623_084108397

And the Malabar Spinach is about big enough to toss in a salad!

IMG_20160623_084113850

I cannot wait to head out every day to see what is happening. And I love to head here also to see what ya’ll are doing.

Last week Ginger Dawn shared a poem titled “She Let Go“.  I have read this numerous times in the last week. I think we are all so busy and that makes this such a great message. If you did not read it, take a few moments by yourself and read it and let it resonate with you. I love it and we all need to stop, breath and let go over and over and over again in our lives. Enjoy reading it and thank you Ginger for sharing. Please note also that the artwork is by Ginger herself and it is beautiful.

So like I said we all are busy. So take a moment and brag on what you are doing this week.

Visit some other posts while you are at it. Thank you for joining. It is not a hop without you. Let’s get hopping!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #228

FGF LogoV2Glad you are here at the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

It has been a great week here. I think we are going to have our first tomatoes of the season in a salad tonight. So exciting. And we are heading to my parent’s this weekend to celebrate Father’s Day and my mom’s birthday. That will be much fun!

If you read Ginger Dawn’s blog entry last week about her May Art challenge, you will have seen some awesome drawings and her new found passion for art.  Ginger shared that she earned a MaryJane’s Farmgirl Sisterhood Badge during her May Art Challenge. How great is that! Congrats to Ginger!!

What has this week brought your way?

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #226

Welcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

FGF LogoV2

Today this is short but ever so sweet. We are heading on a little bit of a drive to go pick up our bee nucs. We have three coming and are very excited. We did get honey last year but sadly our 2 queens were weak and the hives did not survive the winter. We again have positive expectations and are starting over. The hives are set up in the back, sugar water is in jars and waiting and now we need to head to the car for our journey north about 2 1/2 hours to get them.

I love spring and gardening. Kathy from Oak Hill Homestead shared on her blog about her garden expansion and beds. Love the pictures and her budget conscience, beautiful build out.

Raised garden beds

I am going to hit the road and ya’ll can get hopping. I will check in later! Happy Friday.

Welcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

This week has been a fun week of planting and working on our kitchen. Never a dull moment but that is how I like it!

Gardening makes me dream of tomatoes and squash and the Sunny Italian Stew Recipe from Claudia at Avalon Media last week hit the spot! She said it was inspired by her time in Italy as a child and it looks wonderful! Be sure to check it out!

Tips for Gardening with a One Year Old was also delightful! Since we just came back from playing in the dirt with our daughter’s family (which includes an almost 2 year old) it seemed to be perfect timing for this read. Thank you Frugal Mama for sharing!

What are you up to? Late spring is full of action isn’t it?

Time to hop!

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #224

FGF LogoV2Welcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

Well we are back from Georgia. We had so much fun visiting our family, building a raised bed, cleaning out some other areas around the house and planting in them and of course spending time with our rockstar of a grandson!

Arlo

A blog will be forthcoming on our outside fun!

All our entries on our little blog hop here as so awesome on a weekly basis. One of the blogs I love to read are the ones titled “Homestead Hack” and then it can be on a variety of topics. We all love hacks so I always check those out. Last week, a simple yet effective way to dice tomatoes and not have juice dripping down your cabinets was great! And the best thing about it was, as all hacks, you probably have what you need laying around your house. Thank you Taylor for sharing! (I am going to make you head over there for the hack instead of spoiling it for you).

Let’s get going on this week’s shall we? Brag on what you are up to this week. Here are some guidelines if you are new here.

Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop #223

FGF LogoV2Welcome to the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop!

We are heading to Georgia to visit our daughter #2 and her family, do some dog sitting and more visiting with daughter #1. D#3 couldn’t make it on this trip, so next time for her.

DSCN2982We are building a raised bed for D2 and her family. I cannot wait to get my little grandson in the dirt with me! The raised bed is part of their Christmas present. They all LOVE veggies (including little Arlo) and we thought teaching them all how to grow some of their own would be fun. We got them hand tools and gloves and stuff for Christmas. This weekend we will build the bed. I have a few green babies that I am taking and we will be planting some seeds.

DSCN2979We will do the square foot gardening method which is easy and what got me hooked on gardening a few years ago. Low on weeds and high on success. These 2 pictures are from my first try a few years ago (2012).  It got me obsessed with gardening and I am hoping to bring them the same thrill. Wish us all fun in the sun and soil!

I love looking through all the entries on our hop. Recipes, animals, animal babies, health tips, pretty pictures and more! How about you? Did you get a chance to look through the link ups from last week? How about this adorable basket from scraps?

This is so beautiful and looks like fun! What a great way to use up some of those many, many bins of scraps I continue to save. Thank you Farmgirl Freckles for sharing!

Let’s get hopping! Brag on what you are up to this week. Here are some guidelines if you are new here.
